Iron Deficiency
Iron is an element that is essential for many processes in the body. It is crucial for oxygen transport, energy production, and immune system support. When the body does not have an appropriate amount of iron a person may experience weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, exercise intolerance, pallor, headache, dizziness, glossitis, koilonychia (flat, thin nails), or pica (craving of non-foods like clay).
There are several different ways to address iron deficiency, including oral and intravenous iron replacement. However, many are unable to tolerate oral iron supplementation due to inadequate absorption, or unpleasant side effects such as stomach upset and constipation. Intravenous administration of iron, and other medications/vitamins, is always superior to oral as it is better absorbed.
The process:
Unfortunately, it can be difficult for people within our healthcare system to access iron infusions. At Ikaria Medical Aesthetics we have implement the following process to help people suffering with iron deficiency anemia:

Book in for ‘Iron Deficiency Consultation’ with one of our Registered Nurses on our Telus CHR. Your Alberta Personal Health Number is required to book for this appointment. This appointment costs $100, but goes towards the price of the iron infusion fee.

At the consultation IV iron will be discussed and a dosage will be decided on. A prescription for Monoferric IV Iron will be faxed to your pharmacy.

Once you have picked up the prescribed Monoferric phone Ikaria Medical Aesthetics to book in for a Monoferric IV Infusion. Once you are booked in a consent form will be emailed to you. Complete the consent form before your appointment.

Come to your IV infusion appointment with your Monoferric. We charge $200 as an infusion fee for administering the Monoferric. However, $100 paid at the consultation will be deducted from this infusion fee.
If you already have blood work completed you are still required to book in for the ‘Iron Deficiency Consultation’ as the prescription for IV iron is done at this appointment.
