Body Recomposition with GLP-1 Agonists
GLP-1 agonists are a class of medication that are Health Canada approved for treatment of type two diabetes, and for people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) >30. These medications are also prescribed off label for treatment of inflammation, perimenopause, Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), substance abuse disorders, and weight loss. Since GLP-1 agonists affect appetite, many people prescribed them may suffer with severe long term consequences such as muscle wasting, hair loss, osteoporosis, and body dysmorphia.
That’s why our target end point at Ikaria is BODY RECOMPOSITION – not weight loss. Body recomposition is the process of losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time. Increasing skeletal muscle mass while on a GLP-1 agonists will ensure long term lasting results, and decrease your likelihood of needing to be on a GLP-1 agonist for prolonged periods of time.

The Process:
At Ikaria Medical Aesthetics we offer a thorough consultation process that ensures your success and safety while starting a GLP-1 agonist. Our consultation process is outlined below:
-
At the first appointment we will do a comprehensive past medical history review, current symptom and goal discussion, and decide whether you are eligible for a GLP-1 prescription. We will also complete a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to understand your body composition - this will give us a baseline for your skeletal muscle, fat composition, and overall weight loss/body recomposition picture. Lastly, if eligible for a GLP-1 prescription, we will fax that to your preferred pharmacy and give you a blood work requisition to complete prior to your second consult.
-
At the second consult we will review your blood work results in addition to doing a BIA to compare to your baseline BIA. If eligible, we will renew your prescription for a maximum of 3 months.
-
We continue to see patients for a consult every 3 months for refills and to asses no harm is being is being done by measuring skeletal muscle mass.

**PLEASE NOTE**
-
Each appointment costs $150. Our Body Recomposition Program is ran by RN Shanell and NP Kassidy.
-
Mandatory - We require patients to do a consult every 3 months to attain a refill on their prescription, if eligible.
