GLP-1 Agonists

Glucagon Like Peptide (GLP) -1 is a hormone that plays a crucial role in glucose regulation. It's secreted in the small intestine and colon in response to food intake. It also stimulates insulin secretion and inhibits glucagon secretion, which helps regulate blood glucose levels.

GLP-1 receptors are found in the pancreas, brain, and other tissues such as the heart, vascular tissues and gastrointestinal system. GLP-1 agonists are a group of medication that bind to GLP-1 receptors. GLP-1 agonists were approved for treatment of diabetes and obesity, however there is anecdotal evidence that micro-dosing this medication has multiple benefits including:

  • Reduction of inflammation

  • Management of autoimmune diseases

  • Symptom control for perimenopause

  •  Improvement in cognitive and behavioural health

The Process:

At Ikaria Medical Aesthetics we offer a thorough consultation process that ensures your success and safety while starting a GLP-1 agonist. Our consultation process is set up over 3 appointments and is outlined below:

  1. At the first appointment you will be given a blood work requisition so we can ensure it is safe for us to start you on a GLP-1 agonist. We review contraindications and reasons why you are wanting to start a GLP-1 agonist. We also make recommendations for lifestyle changes you can make to increase your results.

  2. At the second appointment we will review your blood work results in addition to doing a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to understand your body composition. You will be given the option to buy a three month supply of compounded oral semaglutide.

    • A three month supply of microdosing costs between $225-$300 depending on your dose.

    • A three month supply of therapeutic dosing costs $850.

You will also be given another blood work requisition to recheck your blood work after starting oral GLP-1 medication.

  •  During the third appointment we review your most recent blood work results and discuss how you have been doing on semaglutide. We will also do another BIA to see how your body has changed.

After completing the three appointments you will be able to buy 1 full year worth of oral GLP-1 before we require you to do additional blood work.

**PLEASE NOTE**

  • Our consultations are done by a registered nurse but are overseen by a Nurse Practitioner. Each consultation costs $150.
